Tangoinnos

FIRE4000

Used on Victrix Tormento in .375 CheyTac

Rifle-mounted laser rangefinder.

The FIRE4000 has been extremely accurate in use on the Tormento and is easy to set up. The results and the ease of getting it ready are the basis of the positive verdict.

What could improve / limits

A slimmer body would be welcome. The reservation is about the bulk, with little to complain about in the readings or setup.

Kestrel

5700 Elite

Wind and weather meter with Applied Ballistics.

The 5700 Elite is an excellent data unit with a terrible interface. The information is valuable; getting to it is harder than it should be. Useful data loses some of its convenience when the controls become part of the work.

It remains a must-have in the NTHNG kit for the two-mile shot. The data earns its place despite the experience of operating it. The recommendation survives the interface. It does not excuse it.

What could improve / limits

Navigation needs work. A unit this useful should be easier to operate.

Garmin

Xero C1 Pro

Compact chronograph.

The Xero C1 Pro is a must-have in the NTHNG long-range kit. Its role is straightforward: measured velocity gives a ballistic solution a firmer basis than an assumed number.

What could improve / limits

The C2 is on the wish list for its Applied Ballistics integration, which connects measured velocity directly to a compatible solver.

Garmin

Foretrex 901 Ballistic Edition

Fast target acquisition and dope-card building.

The Foretrex 901 is great for fast target acquisition and building dope cards. Those are the two jobs that earn it a place in the NTHNG kit. Having Applied Ballistics in a wrist-mounted unit is useful; the experience of wearing it leaves more room for improvement.

What could improve / limits

A little uncomfortable, and ugly. The usefulness is there. More comfort and a better-looking package would make it easier to like.

Wrist-mounted GPS navigator with Applied Ballistics Elite. 2.2-inch monochrome display, multi-band GNSS and two replaceable AAA batteries. Garmin lists up to 100 hours in default GPS mode.
